As in every moment and every area of history, sky and celestial bodies are always being attractive subjects for literature field. Writers and poets have an attention greatly on stars, constellations, planets etc. besides astronomers and scientists. They lead this curiosity of humankind to a higher level by using these concepts in their works. Approximately six hundred years of Ottoman Literature also took an advantage from this attraction, and Dîvân poets never took a step back to use cosmic elements in their proses and verses. In almost every Dîvân poets used these cosmic elements in their works such as Dîvâns, Mathnawîs and other kind of literature works. Although frequency of usage and semantic substructure of the cosmic elements changes from poet to poet, one of the first poets coming to mind is Sünbül-zâde Vehbî who used this subject in his poems frequently. Sünbül-zâde Vehbî gives various meanings to stars, planets and constellations used in his Dîvân vastly by direct or indirect ways. Except its’ scientific qualities, it’s used as a metaphoric items. Sometimes these were used for compliment to people who praised and sometimes for satire about its’ bad features. This study, based on Sünbül-zâde Vehbî's Dîvân (Sünbülistân) written by Vehbî from Maraş, aims to state every cosmic element used in this Dîvân and to identify their uses and principles and to explain these principles by illustrating with verses.
