Phonetic Peculiarities Of The Pair Words In The Azerbaijani Language

Phonetic harmony in pair words is one of the main features. Usually pair words are formed by the joining of words that are consonant to each other. Such consonance both lends them intonation expressiveness and causes lexical-semantic joining of their components and contributes their long existence in the language. Phonetic description of the pair words in the Azerbaijani language is connected with consonance of the components, symmetry of their syllables, rhyme of their components etc. Most of the pair words in the Azerbaijani language is accompanied by alliteration, that is the repetition of identical or similar consonants, normally at the beginning of words. Alliteration deals with consonant sounds. The vowel –sound equivalent is assonance, the repetition of vowel sounds. Consonance is characterized by the repetition of the same consonants. It shouldn’t be confused with assonance, which is the repetition of vowel sounds. There is both internal and external alliteration between components that supports their stable connection with the other units. In pair words the end sounds of components or end syllables are usually rhymed. The rhyme of these units doesn’t depend on sound composition of components. It is connected with the peculiarities of the language, its agglutinative nature and can be formed as a result of addition of similar morphological elements to similar roots. Sometimes common articulation peculiarities of consonants makes it possible to function as rhyme and as a result outward sound harmony forms in the components. In the Azerbaijani language the sound harmony of pair words is connected with number and kinds of syllables in the components. Thus most pair words consist of the components that consist of the same number and similar syllables.
