Şairlerin sanatçı kişiliklerinin ortaya çıkmasında yazdıkları şiir ve düz yazı şeklindeki tüm eserleri; ondan yansıyan birer ayna gibi kimlik, kişilik ve sanatçı şahsiyetinin farklı yönlerini aydınlatır. Bu bağlamda mektuplar, takrîzler ve nazireler de o şahsiyetin, sanat ve sosyal çevresini anlamada bize kaynaklık etmektedir. Bu eserler vasıtasıyla sanatçının tesirinde kaldığı ve etkilediği şahısları öğrenebilme imkanı ortaya çıkmakta ve sanat çevresi tesbit edilebilmektedir. Klâsik Türk edebiyatının önemli şairlerinden Nâbî, yaşadığı çağda ve daha sonraki zamanlarda pek çok sanatkârı etkilemiş ve devir şartlarında Osmanlı'nın geniş coğrafyasında iyi bir sanat ortamı oluşturmuştur. Özellikle şairin 20 yıl kadar kaldığı Halep'te ve İstanbul'da geniş bir hayran kitlesi meydana gelmiştir. Nâbî’nin, İstanbul dışında sanat ve kültür faaliyetlerinin yoğun olduğu şehzade şehri Manisa’da da bir sanat çevresinin teşekkül ettiği mektup ve şiirlerinden anlaşılmaktadır. Bazı tezkire yazarlarına göre Nâbî, Bosnalı Sâbit’in Manisa’da kadı olduğu zaman bu şehre gelmiş; Birrî Mehmed’in de aralarında bulunduğu ilim ve sanat erbabıyla görüşmüştür. Hikemî tarzın büyük temsilcisi şair Nâbî’den etkilen Birrî, onun şiirlerine nazireler yazmıştır. Bu çalışmada, Nâbî ile Birrî arasındaki dostluğu gösteren şairlerin birbirlerini övmek amacıyla yazdıkları şiirler, Nâbî’nin Birri Mehmed Dede’nin Bülbüliyye’si için kaleme aldığı takriz ile yine onun Birrî'ye yazdığı bir mektubu ele alınmıştır.
