Hakimiyet-i Milliye newspaper is one of the newspapers having great importance during the period of National Struggle. Newspaper, which started publishing on January 10, 1920 were founded by Mustafa Kemal Pasha himself. Hakimiyet-i Milliye published in order to disseminate intellectual foundations based on the National Struggle movement, opinions and decisions to the public. The historical value of the newspaper also stems from this point. In terms of its aims and principles, Hakimiyet-i Milliye can be taken into account a sequel of journal of İrade-i Milliye, previously issued on a weekly basis by Mustafa Kemal in Sivas. Hakimiyet-i Milliye, also in terms of being a spokesman for the national struggle, has been the interpreter of Anatolia’s national conscience by being accepted the semi-official organ of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. From February 6 1921, journal that began to publish on a daily basis, has spread to big cities and the whole of Anatolia in a short time. Intellectuals like Ağaoğlu Ahmet, Ziya Gevher, Ruşen Eşref, Ziya Gökalp, Adnan Adıvar, İzzet Ulvi, Mahmut Esat, Tevfik Rüştü and Yusuf Akçura, who provided important services in the process of establishing a new state took part in the newspaper staff writer of Journal of Hakimiyet-i Milliye, where Recep Zühdü (Soyak) is known as the first franchise owner and manager. Hakimiyet-i Milliye also has been announcing to the world the Republic that is the new regime of the new government of Turkey. This Journal became the publication agency of Grand National Assembly of Turkey and personnel who established the Republic. In this paper, the August-September 1922 period will be evaluated by relying on the news and comments in the National Sovereignty.
