The Concept Of Izâfet (Possessive Case) In Arabic Language, Its Kinds And Its Equivalents In Turkish Language (A Comparative Grammer Study Essay)


The starting point of learning-process a foreign language is the moment that someone started to learn his own language. Because, human thinks with words and understands as far as his vocabulary allows. So, comprehension of a foreign language grammar terms depends on finding out and comprehension equivalents of these terms in his language. Starting from this point, we could say that a Turkish-speaking person’s process of learning Arabic language grammar starts with his comprehension of the equivalent of the same grammar rules in his own langugae. This essay aims at establishing this identification in the context of izafet (posssessive cases). The possessive cases hold important place in Arabic language. Thus, the method of using less words and expressing much that named “economy in the language” occurs in these cases actively. The uses that could be expressed by forming chain of words like that something belongs to someone, the matter which made of it, the time or place where an event happened in, may be put in these possessive cases, that is, composition of two words. Therefore, possessive cases, although they seem simple, have a complex structure, and it’s so important to recognize the possessive case, its kinds and meanings, related to know meanings of these compositions. The way to recognize these complex structure of possessive cases entirely is to make relations between these expressions and their equivelants in Turkish. This essay aims to determine, about genitive cases, the similarities and differences between two language, so, to help who studies Arabic language in order to understand and comprehend the subject better taking advantage of their own languages.
