A Ruzname Belonging To Sultan Mahmud I (1147 AH/1734 BC)


The privy secretaries who were very close people to Prophet Mohammed during the commencement of Islam also involved in the correspondence with other foreign kings, emperors and emeers.Those officials who supervised different bureaucratic works in time were always in higher positions in protocol. The sultans took them everywhere they went. Therefore, they naturally withnessed a lot of events that could not be known by ordinary people. The ruznames which can be defined as the diary of Ottoman sultan were written down by the privacy secretaries. The archive records which were first seen in 18. Century as defined by today's scientist were important resources for getting to know the sultans of the era very closely and reaching the extraordinary information belonging to the courtiers. In addition, those records are important for knowing palaces, pavillions, servants in them, socio-cultural, cultural, economic events of the era, the history of Istanbul and a lot of subjects. The ruzname in the study belongs to enthronement of Sultan Mahmut I, dated 1734 BC and it has not been studied to date. The ruzname which spans about four and half months must have been the part of a whole. In spite of a short one, it is a very significant record for looking into the events of the era in detail and filling a gap in this era. The aim of the study is to help enhance some of our knowledge and facts about Sultan Mahmud I and introduce science world some unknown facts about him and it is certain that it will help fill an important gap and be useful.
