Aruz is a type of rhtyhm emerged from Arabic literature. It has been transferred from Arabic literature to Farsi literature and also from Farsi literature to Turkish literature. Aruz is a rhythm which is designed according to the sounds in syllable and open and closed letters that characterize syllables. Parts are derived from section and specific Aruz rhythm are created in each section. The meter in Aruz is the couplet. Aruz is consisted mainly of sections. Aruz in Turkish literature dates back to acceptance of Islam. For the next centuries, this rhythm has begun to be associated with Turkish language and led to the emergence of Turkish Aruz. There has occurred some difficulties in the application of Aruz in Turkish poetry. The lack of vowel sound in Turkish played an important role. Thus, long stressed vowels were frequently used. This type of rhythm has played an important role in the formation of literary works. It is a concept of sound rhythm in Aruz poetry. There is a necessity of source use in the examination of Aruz. Compilations from similar poems in Divan poetry can be counted among the sources. It eases the examination of Aruz through ordering similar poems in the specific parts. There are plenty of Aruz forms in these compilations. The frequency of defects in the application of Aruz can be traced in these works. A comparison among the poems of the poets who lived in the same era can be made. Further, the development and improvement process of Aruz can be inspected. This paper examined the following samples poem compilations from Turkish literature: Ömer b. Mezîd’in Mecmû’atü’n-nezâir’i, Edirneli Nazmi’nin Mecma‘u’n-Nezâ’ir’i, Pervane b. Abdullah’ın Mecmu‘atü’n-nezair’i, Hisâlî’nin Metâliü’n-nezâir. Also, the need to use of these sources in the examination of Aruz was highlighted.
