Onat Kutlar’s Story Telling In The Context Of The Ishak And Analysis Of “Çatı”


The storytellers called “1950 Generation” with their attitude of form and content prepared a basement of the transformation of modernist Turkish storytelling. This storytellers; synthesising accumulation of initiator reformist such as Sait Faik, Vüs’at O. Bener and Nezihe Meriç, with inspiring effect of movement of West based thinking and art such as existentialism and surrealism; carrying the person’s, inner life, loneliness, depression, contactless to fiction plane with modernist techniques. Onat Kutlar is seen as one of the important writers of this generation with his story book Ishak writing at the age of 23. Kutlar winning 1960 Turkish Language Institution Story Prize with his only story book consisting nine stories, in Ishak parallel to his literary thinking used themes and techniques in a specific behaviour. People’ struggling; trying to have a new life or escaping from the monotoneous life around them forming thematic context of stories in Ishak. İn parallel with this, in stories, characters are encountered trying to find a way to escape from strict family and home life. Fantastic / sürrealist / kafkaesque items attract attention as basic themes in story plane. In a general view it can bee said that stories in Ishak have a completing form with their language fiction, atmosphere and content features. An analysis trial of the fourth story of the book the “Çatı” forms the theme of this study. In thinking of contributing of analysis at the beginning of the study internal and external Dynamics preparing 1950 Generation storytelling are pointed and then in mediation of Ishak it is tried to make a general determination of Kutlar’s storytelling.
