AHMET MİTHAT EFENDİ’S VIEWS ABOUT THE SIMPLIFICATION OF TURKISH Ahmet Mithat Efendi, whom we still remember with mercy at his in the centenary of death (1844-1912), revealed very important opinions about the simplification of Turkish. After Rashid Pasha who issued Tanzimat edict and Şinasi who published the first private newspaper, Ahmet Mithat Efendi was seriously interested in language problem in newspapers and magazines and supported that the Turkish nation is don’t have a language and the language of public have to be done as national language. So he sees that Arabic and Persian phrases and adjectives must have disposed for simplification of Turkish as the first step. Many Turkish intellectuals of the periods which is not acceptable in a language close to the language he used in his works idealize, so that his novels was one of the most widely read novels during period. In addition to simplification of the language and teaching of language, Ahmet Mithat Efendi wants to remove unnecessary rules and principles of Arabic and Persian from school books. He believes that the time of writing an excellent spelling, grammar book and dictionary of Turkish. His opinions on simplification of Turkish will be discussed in this article.
