Araştırmanın amacı üniversite birinci sınıf öğrencilerinin İstiklal Marşı’ndaki anahtar kelimeleri bilip bilmediklerini belirlemek, bundan hareketle İstiklal Marşı’nın yeterince anlaşılıp anlaşılmadığına yönelik çeşitli çıkarımlarda bulunmaktır. Çalışma açık uçlu sorulardan oluşan başarı testinin uygulandığı betimsel bir araştırmadır. Başarı testi eğitim hayatlarını Ağrı İbrahim Çeçen Üniversitesi’nin farklı birimlerinin birinci ve ikinci öğretimlerinde devam ettiren üç yüz birinci sınıf öğrencisine uygulanmıştır. Araştırmanın sonunda uzman görüşünden hareketle oluşturulan İstiklal Marşı’ndaki anahtar kelimelerin % 33.8’inin bilindiği, % 66.1’inin bilinmediği belirlenmiştir. Araştırmada, ayrıca, ilk iki kıtanın kelimelerinin bilinme oranının (Birinci kıtanın anahtar kelimelerinin bilinme oranı % 53.4 iken ikinci kıtanın kelimelerinin bilinme oranı % 59.5’tir.) sonraki kıtalardaki kelimelerin bilinme oranından (Örneğin, dokuzuncu kıtanın anahtar kelimelerinin bilinme oranı % 14.8 iken onuncu bölümün kelimelerinin bilinme oranı % 4.6’dır.) daha yüksek olduğu ortaya çıkmıştır. Diğer bir ifadeyle öğrencilerin haftada iki kez okudukları ilk iki kıtadaki kelimeleri şiirin diğer bölümlerindeki kelimelerden daha iyi bildikleri tespit edilmiştir. Araştırmanın son bölümünde milletin ideallerini içinde barındırması yönüyle milletin yaşantılarından, ortak paydalarından doğmuş, millet olma bilincini en derin şekliyle hissettiren en önemli değerlerden biri olan İstiklal Marşı’ndaki kelimelerin daha iyi öğrenilmesi ve marşın yeterince anlaşılması için marşın on kıtasının bütüncül bir bakış açısıyla daha sık ele alınması, çeşitli görsel-işitsel araçlardan faydalanılması gibi çeşitli önerilerde bulunulmuştur.

The purpose of this study is to find out whether or not the freshman students of the university know the key words of Turkish National Anthem (Independence Anthem) and from that point of view, to elicit whether or not the National Anthem is understood adequately. The study is a descriptive research where success test consisting of open-ended questions was applied. The success test was administered to three hundred freshman students of day- and night-time attending students from various departments of Agri Ibrahim Cecen University. Based on expert opinion, at the end of the study it was discovered that 33.8% of them know the key words of National Anthem while the rate of those not knowing them is 66.1%. In the study, it is also discovered that the rate of knowing the key words in the first two stanzas (rate of knowing key words in the first stanza is 53.4% while the same for the second stanza is 59.5%) is higher than the rate of knowing the key words in the other stanzas (for instance, the rate of knowing the key words of the ninth stanza is 14.8% while the same rate for the tenth stanza is 4.6%). In other words, it has been discovered that the students know the words in the first two stanzas sung twice every week, better than knowing the words in other stanzas of the poem.
