Remains Of The Old Turkish İn Erzurum Dialect


Turkey Turkish is separated to dialects depends on some sound and shape differences in spoken regions. Erzurum dialect, one of dialects of Turkey Turkish, has remarkable characteristics in respect to phonetics and semantics. Especially when analyzed in terms of word source in past and now it is seen that there are major similarities between The Old Turkish and Erzurum dialect. In this study; publications about Erzurum dialect were searched and they were compared to vocabulary of the Old Turkish. Not only relevant publications were examined but also were utilized from live sources. It was determined that words used in the Old Turkish and about 130 words in Erzurum dialect had synonymity as a result the words used in Erzurum dialect were investigated. Some of these words are also same as phonetics. The rest of them were exposed to some sound alterations. For example, words e.g. alma (elma), eke (büyük), eze (teyze), yelim (hafif), yu- (yıka-), yun- (yıkan-) are paralel to the Old Turkish as meaning and form. As keeping on meaning paralel, some sound changes are occured in words such as böcüyh (E.d.) -bögücük (O.T.) (böcek), dözet-(E.d.)-tüzet-(O.T.) (düzelt-), oğrun (E.d.)-o?rı (O.T.) (gizlice). These sound alterations were also indicated in our study. Finally in this article; it was identified that there were remarkable numbers of Old Turkish words in Erzurum dialect and many of them had same sound structure with been used same meaning. In old texts it was found that there were sentence samples been established by words which had similarities between the Old Turkish and Erzurum dialect. In the article with mentioned sample sentences it was exemplified by idioms and Turkish poems used in Erzurum dialect.
