A Back Of The Book Dıctıonary Translatıon: Kutadgu Bilig

Kutadgu Bilig written by Yusuf Has Hacib in 11. century by the form of aruz prosody and verse also meaning the information leading to happiness is the first sample of politicsbooks style. This work which was written by Hakaniye Turkish dialect and involving 6645 couplets was completed totally in eighteen months. Four symbolic characters speak each other in this book which contains some subjects such as knowledge, advice, virtue and happiness. Among these “Kün Togdı” represents the justice; “Ay Toldı” represents the happiness; “Odgurmış” represents the day of doom; “Ögdülmiş” represents the wisdom. In this article, the dictionary prepared by a committee of eight in Urumçi at the back of the Kutadgu Bilig’s translation version into New Uigur Turkish dialect publishing in 1984, was handled. In this dictionary, which consists of totally 270 expressions, there are per items for 244 of them, and there are not any per items for 29 of them. The importance of this dictionary is derived from containing some forgotten words and expressions for today belonging to the Middle Turkish language. The transcriptions and transfer into Turkey Turkish dialect of the per items and expressions in the dictionary are given into a table side-by-side here; also the transcription letters that are used are showed together at the end of the article. Another noteworthy point of the dictionary is the abbreviations “Ķ. U”, “E” ve “P” using just after the some per items. The most frequently repeated abbreviation “Ķ. U” means Kutadgu Bilig-Uigur dialect; “E” means Arabic language; “P” means Persian language. In addition to these, the word “Sanskiritçe” was written on the side of the words coming from Sanskrit language.
