Erdem Bayazıt’s Poem World


In this article on Erdem Bayazıt who is a prominent poet of recent era in Turkish poetry, and his poetry, its development and sources influenced him, people, events, his understanding of art, committing themes, his poetic language and his imagination are reviewed. To comprehend the internal dynamics of poet's modern life-style questioning and ideal elucidating poetry, to determine the reflections of socio-cultural life and to examine the technical aspects of this poetry constitute main objectives of this article. By mentioning poet's intellectual biography in the main lines, his poetry and the evaluations made on the poetics will contribute to a better understanding of Erdem Bayazıt poetry. Bayazıt, criticizing the estranged society from the traditional life-style in his poems, thinks such a civilization is artificial and corrupts mankind. His works, in which rootlessness of a life that deprived of the spiritual basis and its aloofness from redounding conciousness are expressed, uses plain but dynamic poetry language. It is observed that social problems hold a central spot, following with universal themes such as death and love, in his poems of the poet, dealing with not only the country geography but also the whole world on the axis of human susceptibility. All he did was to depend on the traditional culture, his reference point, while he was handling all of these issues. It’s obvious that the aspect affecting imagery world and the way of interpretation profoundly, force Bayazıt to perform a political stance in his works from time to time. That such particular repertoire forming the artist’s aspects briefly mentioned in modern Turkish poetry will be addressed.
