Upon The Red Veil Tradition In Wedding Ceremony Of Turkish World


Traditions are unique resources reflecting people’s view on life. They also provide an excellent medium to learn about the thought process and evolving ideas throughout history. Birth, marriage and death are regarded as the most important traditional ceremonies in human life. Studies of folklore have an important role in introducing a society. Therefore, we will examine one folklore factor such as ‘Red Veil’ traditional wedding ceremony besides birth, marriagement and death in our article. If it is explained in cultural continually point of view, it is seen that the Turks kept their life styles and traditions after they became Muslim. Some of these traditions and life-styles that were not appropriate with Islamic regulations changed in the course of time, some of them disappeared and some of them kept their existence by gaining Islamic identity. After the Turks became Muslim, they appeared in a very large geography and this very large geography had different social, economical and political structures. Because of this, the change happened in different levels in Turkish societies. Society gain and form their traditions during long periods and the traditions of society can hardly be changed. One of the peculiarities which differs one nation from others is the tradition. Transferring the traditions into new generations is important for the continuity of a society. Determination of cultural foundations of bride dresses in use today is very important in this regard. The cultural unity between Turkey and the Turkish around the world would be evaluated in our article by these traditional folk values.
