Type in Turkish Literature Verse Hilye and Neccarzâde Rızâ’s Hilye-i Hâce Bahâüddîn Şâh-ı Nakşibend

After meeting Islam, Turks had built their culture and art with İslamic essentials. Islam effected literature as well and it caused many kinds of letters which related with religion. One of those kinds is hilye which containing Hz. Muhammed’s appearance and personality. At first, hilye was reporting about only Hz. Muhammed’s human specialities. Then it became a type of literature that including four khalifs, great people of Islam and leaders of observances. In Ottoman literature, poetic styles of hilye genre that deals with Hz. Mohammed’s physical and spiritual portrait has emerged at the 16th century and many example works were created in this period. Besides hilyes focusing on Hz. Mohammed, creation of works that focus on other prophets, four caliphs and important religious figures have started at the 17th century. Hilye, a literary genre that was very significant in Ottoman Empire period, firstly dealt only with Hz. Mohammed’s features; but then the content was broadened and the genre continued to be used until 20th century with its content including prophets, caliphs and important religious figures. Firstly, there will be basic information about poetical examples of this kind in Turkish literation. In the next level, the story “Hilye-i Hâce Bahâüddin Şâh-ı Nakşibend” will be introduced which was written by Neccârzade Rıza for Şâh-ı Nakşibend.
