The Syntax in the Novel “Yalnızız” of Peyami Safa


In this work, 40 pages that are chose from one of the most important author of Turkish literature, Peyami Safa’s novel named “Yalnızız” that shown by many critics as the best novels of the author, are examined in point of syntax. We determined 952 sentences from 40 pages that we chose from different parts of the work. We examined the sentences that we determined, according to their structures. İt is examined simple and complex sentences, 681 in total, according to predicate’s place, predicate’s type and predicate’s meaning. İt is determined 3077 word groups in 40 pages examined. After showing the number of word groups in the table several conclusions are reached about the use of the word groups. Our aim is to contribute to syntax works and to determine how Peyami Safa uses the language and to reach some informations about his style by using this work. As the gotten datums are interpreted, İt is seen that the author used simple and short sentences mostly. It is understood that peyami safa benefits from the whole expression facilities of language and knows very well the technique of the novel. İt is reached that Peyami Safa is very skilled at making sentences and using language according to contents and gives importance to description.
