The Ottoman historiography, starts 100-150 years after the foundation of Beylik Ottoman, had been developed by time and there were many literature works appeared which are so important to Turkish history and Turkish national culture. Histiographers had given information about traditions, customs, habits, legends, proverbs in addition to historical events. Especially on the place names, regarding to the ones that are stil alive, the knowledge given by them are so valuable. Oruç Beg, one of the important historiographer in 15th century, has given historical and valuable knowledge about giving place names of Ottomans that had been going to world ruler empire from a little stereotyped, in the work called Tevârîh-i Âl-i Osman made his name alive by centuries. The aim of this study is to bring Tevârîh-i Âl-i Osman by Oruç Beg that is the most important resource for researching the reason of living names, to toponomy researches. As the writings analyzed, we see the naming custom gathered under three topics: 1. Naming with a result of an event, 2. Naming with a monarch's Word, 3. Naming with memorial of a person. Tevârîh-i Âl-i Osman by historiographer Âşık Paşazâde –lived before Oruç Beg were compared during the study.
