Ashiq Omer in the Modern Crimean Tatar Literature


Ashiq Omer is a bard of the 17th century. Researches that have been made lately new perspectives about his origin and the literary circle he is a member of most of the works produced in Turkey claim that he is from Gozleve (Qorualan), a small town in Qonya whereas works produced abroad claim him to be from Kezlev (Gezleve) in Crimea. Therefore two different literary circles Turkey anda Crimea emerge. This article aims to compare and contrast the works on Ashiq Omer. Works produced about Ashiq Omer the contemporary Crimean Tatar literatüre and his influence on the so-called literary tradition are discussed.
