1774 yılında Alman edebiyatının büyük ustası Goethe tarafından oluşturulan Genç Werther’in Acıları romanı ile ondan tam 123 yıl sonra Halit Ziya tarafından 1897 yılında yazılan Mai ve Siyah romanı arasında yazarlarının hayat hikayeleriyle eserleri arasında bazı benzerlikler bulunduğunu tespit ettik. Bu tespitlerimiz bir karşılaştırmalı edebiyat metodu olan pozitivist metoda uygun olarak ele alındı. Araştırmamızda gördük ki, her iki romanın kahramanı da biraz yazarlarıydı. Goethe, Genç Werther, Ahmet Cemil, Halit Ziya. Hatta etraflarında bulunan kişiler de örneğin Mai ve Siyah’ta Raci, Muallim Naci’ye şaşılacak derecede benziyordu.Her iki kahraman da dönemlerini çok iyi yansıtıp, etki etmişti. Sadece fikirleriyle değil, kılık kıyafet ve hareketleriyle hatta aşklarıyla da etkili olmuşlardı. Ahmet Cemil, emellerine kavuşamayınca büyük bir hayal kırıklığına uğruyor.Mavi bir gecede kurduğu hayaller, siyah bir gecede sona eriyor. Hayal - hakikat tezatı renklerle de ifade ediliyor. Genç Werther’de de renkler dikkat çekiyor. Mai ve Siyah romanı bu noktada bir hayal kırıklığıyla sona eriyor. Genç Werther romanı ise intiharla. Goethe, eserinde gerçekten de kendi başından geçmiş bir aşk hikayesini anlatmıştır. Bu aşk acısını unutmak için mi böyle bir yola başvurmuştur bilinmez ama intihar bir salgın haline geliyor. Kim bilir belki de Goethe kahramanını öldürmeseydi kendisi intihar edecekti. Ahmet Cemil de annesinin sesini duymasaydı belki intihar edecekti?

We have found that there are some similarities between the Sorrows of Young Werther ,written by Goethe, the great author of the German literature in 1774 and Blue and Black written by Halit Ziya in 1897, 123 years after in terms of their writers’ backgrounds and their stories. First we analyzed such books through positivism method, one of the comparative literature methods. We saw that both characters of the books are in fact, their writers. Goethe, Young Werther, Ahmet Cemil, Halit Ziya. And the people around them such as Raci in Blue and Black resembled to Muallim Naci profoundly. Both characters reflected their own period well and had influence on literature not only with their ideas but also their way of dressing and etiquette they used, even their loves. Ahmet Cemil got disappointed when he could not attain his goals. His dreams at a blue night ended at a black night. The contrast between dream and reality was expressed there. In Young Werther , colors are remarkable as well. Blue and Black ends with a disappointment whereas Young Werther ends with suicide. In fact, Goethe told a love story he experienced. It is not known whether he attempted suicide in order to forget his torch, but suicides became an epidemic. If Goethe had not killed his character, he may have killed himself, who knows? Perhaps Ahmet Cemil would also attempted suicide if he had not heard his mother’s voice.
