According to the Turkish Folklore Archive Guide prepared in 1976 by the National Folklore Research Deparment of Ministry of Culture of the time, which is now called the Ministry of Culture directorate general for research and development of folk culture, article ‘K’ in the guide was designated for beliefs, while the subjects of Turkish folklore was being determined. In this part of the guide which was prepared based on the categorization in hundreds, dream and fortune-telling appears in the ‘K 700’ category. As is understood from this information, we come across fortune-telling in the part which is designated for beliefs in folklore. Fortune-telling upon which little study is conducted is a branch of Turkish folklore -handled in different researches- and it bears importance in that it shows people’s approach to supernatural powers. This study is based on assessing information related to fortune-telling which was recorded while giving information about various places in Seyahatname,which is an important work as far as Turkish cultural history, literature and folk science is considered. The main aim of our study is to include this important work of our cultural history in the researches on fortune-telling and to form the basis for the studies that we are going to carry out on fortunetelling on which little research is conducted.
