Hangi dönemin ya da devrin insanı olursa olsun "sanatkâr", hisseden, fark eden ve insanî olana ilişkin değerleri "sanat eseri" vasıtasıyla duyurmak isteyen kişidir. Bu yönüyle sanatkâr, içerisinde yaşamış olduğu toplumun gerçekliğiyle meydana getirdiği eserinin estetize edilmiş gerçekliğini, trajedi ya da çatışma da diyebileceğimiz anlatı unsurlarıyla birleştirerek "okur"una hissettirmeye çalışır. Sanat eserinin birincil muhatabı olarak okur ise edebi metinle kurabildiği bağ ölçüsünde bu itibari gerçeklikten hareket ederek kendi gerçekliğiyle yüzleşme yolunda önemli kazanımlar elde eder. Hüseyin Rahmi Gürpınar da yukarıda kısaca işaret edilen "sanatkâr", "sanat eseri" ve "okur" etkileşimi dolayımında eser kaleme alan yazarlarımızdandır. Yaşadığı dönem içerisinde tanık olduğu "Batılılaşmak!" isteyen Osmanlı ailelerinin, çocuklarının eğitimini ne olduğu ve nerden geldiği hakkında bilgi edinmeden Fransız sözde eğitmenlerin eline terk etmelerinin sonuçlarını "Mürebbiye" adlı romanında gözler önüne sermiştir. Makalede, tahkiye unsurlarının da başarılı bir biçimde kullanıldığı roman, vaka zinciri çözümlenerek tahlil edilmeye çalışılacaktır.
