Seğirme, hafif kımıldamak ve daha çok vücudun bir yerinde deri ile birlikte derinin hemen altındaki kaslar hafifçe oynamak anlamına gelir. Vücudun bazı uzuvlarında görülen bu kımıldama zamanla insanoğlu tarafından gelecekte olacağı tahmin edilen menfî ve müspet haberlere yorulur olmuştur. Yorulan bu haberlerin tahminin ötesine geçememesi bu yorumların fal menşeili olduğunu gösterir. Daha çok sözlü anlatım türleri arasında yer bulan bu yorumlar, zamanla yazıya aktarılmıştır. Adına “seğir-name” denilen bu türle alakalı edebiyatımızda, değişik hacimlerde eserler, risaleler meydana getirilmiştir. Bu makalede Sivas Ziyabey Yazma Eserler Kütüphânesi numara 3794’te kayıtlı bir mecmuanın 32-45 sayfaları arasında yer alan bir seğir-name metni ilim alemine sunulmuştur.
