Dîvânü Lugâti’t-Türk, söz varlığı bakımından sadece Eski Türkçenin değil Türkçenin tarihî ve çağdaş bütün dönemlerinin en temel kaynaklarından biridir. Her ne kadar Kâşgarlı eserinde döneminin çok fazla kullanılmayan, eskimiş gibi telakki edilen kelimelerini eserine almadığını söylese de Dîvân’da günümüze ışık tutan pek çok eskicil (arkaik) ögenin olduğu dikkatlerden kaçmaz. İşte bu çalışmada Dîvân’da geçip de okunuşu, anlamı ve yapısı üzerinde çok fazla durulmamış olan ulas /öles “süzgün, baygın” kelimesi üzerinde bir etimoloji denemesi yapılacaktır. Evvela kelimeyle ilgili okuma ve tahlil denemelerine temas edilecek, ardından Türkçenin tarihî ve çağdaş metinlerinden hareketle görüşlerimiz ortaya konulacaktır.
Lexicology of Diwan Lugat at-Turk is not only the Old Turkic but only the most important source of all historical and modern Turkic dialects. Although the Kâshgarî says he didn’t take the words assumed as obsolescent in his era there is a lot of archaic words in the dictionary. In this paper we do an etymological essay of the word ulas / öles “gently-glancing” which there isn’t to much work on its reading, meaning and structure. Firstly we touch upon the reading and analysing essays of the word. Then we start out to explain our opinion from the historical and modern texts of Turkic dialects.
