Hüseyin Rahmi Gürpınar’ın Ölüler Yaşıyor mu? romanı benzer konulu -materyalist dünya görüşünün ruhçu ve mistik düşünce karşısındaki üstünlüğünü savunan “gerçekçi”- romanlarında ayrılır. Roman yazarın düşünsel ve edebi yaşamı açısından bir ilke işaret eder. Bu makalenin amacı Hüseyin Rahmi’nin ruhçu dünya görüşüyle de empati kurmaya çalıştığı ve “gerçekçi” değil, “fantastik” türde yazmış olduğu Ölüler Yaşıyor mu? adlı romanı üzerine, benzer konulu diğer romanlarıyla da karşılaştırmalı olarak ayrıntılı bir inceleme sunmayı amaçlamaktadır.

Hüseyin Rahmi Gürpınar, often benefits from the fantastic and the supernatural elements in his novels. He believes in materialist world view and through his novels he advocates it and attempts to impose and spread his views to the public. In his novels, there are many supernatural elements such as the jinn, fairy, devil, resurgent skeletons, returned souls etc. and the situations caused by these supernatural elements. By using these, his aim is always to prove that in the reality there are no such supernatural things and unknowable forces. In his point of view, these supernatural and fantastic forces, situations and atmosphere, because of their attractiveness, help him to enlighten “uneducated” people. The end of his novels is always in a “realistic” way and the materialist worldview prevails to the spiritualism. The reason, logic and science become superior to other things seem to be supernatural and they eliminate the fantastic. However, among the other novels of him which are about similar subjects, one of them, Ölüler Yaşıyor mu? can be located as different because it points out the uniqueness in terms of the intellectual and the literary aspect of Hüseyin Rahmi. Thus, the aim of this article is to present a detailed and comparative analysis of Ölüler Yaşıyor mu? which can be evaluated as “fantastic genre”, not the realistic and in which the author tries to show empathy with the spiritual world view.
