Mole/Beauty Spot As A Beauty Element In Classical Turkish Literature


ABSTRACT Although the beauty in Classical Turkish Literature is Islamic mysticism origin, the beloved is seen when the human love is point at issue. One of the striking features of the beloved is that she is so beautiful to dazzle. There are some elements like eyebrow, eye, eyelash, hair, forehead and cheek that add beauty to beauty. Mole, which is “hâl” in Persian and “şâme” in Arabic, is among the real beauty elements of the beloved. Classical Turkish poets used many metaphors and figurative elements related to the mole on various parts of the beloved’s body with a huge imagination. In the study, metaphors and figurative elements about the shape, color, place and smell of the mole in literary texts were determined and images related to the mole were presented.
