IMMIGRANT TURKISH INTELLECTUAL’S IDENTITY CRISIS AND THE SOLUTION: IN THE CASE OF YÜKSEL PAZARKAYA


The leading writer of Turkish origin, Yüksel Pazarkaya, who lives in Germany, is interested in Turkish and German literature and gained many prizes for his translations and original works. In introduction part, Pazarkaya’s brief introduction, information on “immigrant literature”, his position in this literature, and his approach to this definition were given. Then, thoughts on culture and cultural identity issues were given. Identity crisis in Turkish novel “Ben Aranıyor” (1989) and its German version “Ich und die Rose” (2002) was dwelt on. After this section, Turkish and German idioms and proverbs in these novels were compared. In the final section there is the short evaluation of the work.
