Folk medicine and its applications have great importance in Turkish popular culture. These applications that compose a keystone for Turkish culture were carried from Middle Asia to Anotalia and they have obtained till today by undergoing some changes and development. Sanatoriums and their applications that bear the trace of old Turkish believes commonly proceed in and around Tarsus like many other places in Anatolia. In this article, first of all, we will inform about some people named “ocak” or “ocakli” in and around Tarsus and how this custom is maintained.Afterwards, we will introduce sanatoriums and their applications and evaluate them in terms of their stuructural and functional features. Finally, we will try to explain the relations between these applications that were performed by someone called “ocak” and old Turkish belief system.
