1839 Tanzimat Fermanı sonrası daha somut bir hal alan modernleşme çabaları kendi entelektüel neslini de yetiştirir. Bu neslin bir üyesi olan Ahmet Mithat (1844-1912) hem kendi zamanını edebi boyuta taşımada hem de batı kaynaklı yeni edebi tür ve düşünceleri tanıtmada önemli başarılar kaydetmiştir. Bu yazı, Ahmet Mithat’ın eserlerinin mukaddimelerini kaynak alarak, yazarın edebiyatı kavramsallaştırma biçimine odaklanmayı amaçlamaktadır. Bu nedenle, öncelikle mukaddime bölümlerine yüklenen işlev tartışılmış, ardından da mukaddimeler içerik bağlamında düzenlenerek, yazarın genel olarak roman türü karşısındaki tutumu incelenmiştir.
The modernization efforts which became more concrete after the Tanzimat Edict (1839) grew up its own generation of intellectuals. Ahmet Mithat (1844-1912) as a member of this generation achieved much in carrying his time to the world of literature as well as introducing new western literary forms and thoughts to the Turkish Literature. In this study, it is aimed to focus on the way Ahmet Mithat conceptualizes literature, with reference to the prefaces of his works. To do so, the function attached to these prefaces will be discussed first, and then Ahmet Mithat's attitude towards the genre of novel will be analyzed by classifying these prefaces with respect to their contexts.
