Bir romanı tiyatroya uyarlamak bu iki edebî türün özelliklerinden dolayı bazı teknik dikkatler gerektirmektedir. Dikkat edilecek en önemli nokta romandaki mesajın anlaşılır ve çarpıcı bir şekilde, en kısa yoldan izleyiciye aktarılmasıdır. Bu yazıda Kemal Tahir’in Esir Şehrin İnsanları romanıyla, romandan yola çıkılarak Kemal Bekir tarafından Kâmil Bey ismiyle tiyatroya uyarlanan metni, yapıyı oluşturan unsurlar bakımından karşılaştırdık. Kemal Tahir, Esir Şehrin İnsanları romanında işgal altındaki İstanbul’un sosyal ve siyasî durumunu, Kâmil Bey isimli karakterin merkezde olduğu olaylarla ortaya sermiştir. Roman kurtuluş mücadelesinin hangi zor şartlar altında gerçekleştiğini gösterirken vatanseverlik ve fedakârlık gibi kavramların altını çizmektedir. Kemal Tahir, romanını halktan kopuk ve olaylara ilgisiz bir aydın olan Kâmil Bey’i bilinçlendirmek üzerine kurgulamıştır. Kemal Bekir de romancının bu amacını ve romanın mesajını en çarpıcı şekilde tiyatroya yansıtmıştır.
The adaptation of a novel to the theatre necessitates some technical attentions due to the characteristics of both kinds of literature. The elements like story line, characters, time and places that are delineated with details in novels are arranged in a different way which keeps the interest of audiences alive. The most important point which must be paid attention is that the message must be given in the shortest, the most understandable and the most impressive way to the audiences. In this article, we compared the novel of Kemal Tahir “Esir Şehrin İnsanları” with the theater text of Kemal Bekir, “Kamil Bey” that is adapted from that novel, with regard to the elements of those compositions. In the novel of “Esir Şehrin insanları”, Kemal Tahir explains the social and political situation of İstanbul that is under occupation with the events of Kamil Bey. The novel shows us the difficult circumstances of the independence war and underlines some concepts like patriotism and dedication. Kemal Tahir fictionalises his novel upon the awakening of Kamil Bey who is not interested in the events and far from the public. Kemal Bekir also reflected that message and the aim of the writer to theatre in the most impressive way. Accordingly, he has chosen some events and characters of the persons from the novel and built up some dialogues.
