Hızır Bey and his brother Umur Bey ruled Aydinogullari principality jointly between 1334 and 1348. Following the death of Umur Bey, Hızır Bey faced several problems on different fronts. Nevertheles, he coped well with the problems he faced. Relations with Byzantium, commercial agreements made with the Genoese and Venetians to open a breach among the crusader states were two policies that had important consequences.
