Azerbaycan, gerek stratejik konumu, gerek yer altı, yer üstü kaynaklarının getirdiği iktisadî potansiyeli ve gerekse siyasî bağlantıları ile, tarih boyunca sayısız çıkar çatışmalarına sahne olmuş bir coğrafyadır. Bu durum zaman içerisinde kültürel birikimlere de yansımış ve epik-hamasî söylemler, Azerbaycan edebiyatının şekillenmesinde önemli bir rol üstlenmiştir. 20. yüzyılın son çeyreğinde yaşanan “Karabağ Savaşı” ile birlikte Azerbaycan edebiyatı yeni bir savaş psikolojisine girmiş, yaşanan maddî ve manevî tahribat bütün ayrıntıları ile edebî çalışmalara aksettirilmiştir. Bu çalışmalar, birer edebî çalışma olmakla birlikte, aynı zamanda yaşanmışlıkların sanatçı duyarlılığı çerçevesinde resmedildiği birer belge niteliği taşıması açısından da ayrı bir öneme sahiptir.
Azerbaijan has seen numerous conflicts of interests throughout history on account of its strategic location, underground and other natural sources, economic potential and political connections. This condition reflects itself in cultural works; and thus epic discourses have played an important role in the formation of Azerbaijani literature. The Azerbaijani literature went through a phase depicting the psyhocology of war together with the outbreak of Karabag War at the end of the 20th c. All the tangible and intangible losses and damages were reflected in detail in the literary works of the era. These works are particularly important in that they are not only literary works but also documents picturing all the events and experiences Azeri poets need to cry out.
