Ahmet Vefik Paşa, Tanzimat yıllarında belki de modern çevirinin başlangıcını oluşturacak bir teknikle Moliére’in eserlerini dilimize kazandırmıştır. O, Moliére’den bazı tiyatro eserlerini adapte etmiş, bazılarını ise birebir çevirmiştir. Böylelikle Türkçemize kazandırdığı adaptasyonlar Türk kültür ve geleneklerine uygun bir yapıda oluşturulmuştur. Yazar, kültürel değerlerimizle Fransız kültürünün bazı değerlerini evrensel bir çizgide sentezlemiştir. Geleneksel seyirlik oyunlara alışmış olan toplumumuzu Fransız komedyasıyla güldürerek düşündürmeyi başarmıştır. Vefik Paşa’nın bu tutumu örnek alınarak günümüze uyarlanabilir. Son yıllarda yabancı dillerden edebî eser çevirisi yapılırken metinler, hiçbir kritere tabi tutulmamakta böylece kültürümüz ve gençlik psikolojisi üzerinde tahribat yapan bölümler eserle birlikte Türkçeye aktarılabilmektedir. Oysa edebî eser çevirisi bir sanattır. Ayrıca çevirmenin iyi bir eğitimci ve kültürel değerleri tanıyan biri olması gereklidir. Bu doğrultuda Ahmet Vefik Paşa’nın edebî eser çevirisinde takip ettiği yol, çeviri sorunlarına çözüm olarak teklif edilebilir. O, Fransızcadan dilimize aktardığı adaptasyonlarında kültürel sentez yaparak Türk – Fransız millî değerlerini ortak paydalarda birleştirmiştir.
Ahmet Vefik Pahsa perhaps with a technique to create the beginning of modern translations of the language has earned Moliére’s works to our language. He has adapted some drama of Moliére and translated some of them samely. Thus, the adaptations he had earned to Turkish, were structured suitable for Turkish culture and traditions. The author has synthesized the culturel values of us with the some values of French culture in a line of universal values. He had accomplished to our society which accustomed to traditional theatrical presentations, make laugh and think at the same time with French comedy. By taking the example of this attitude of Vefik Pasha be adapted to today. Text, in recent years, are not subject to any criteria when foreign language translation of literary works. Thus, the parts that has destructed on our culture and psychology of youth can be transferred to Turkish when transferring with art. But literary translation is an art work. Moreover, a translator to be aware of to the cultural values and must be a good educators. However, the path to follow Vefik Pasha’s literary works in translation, can be offered as a solution to the translation problems. He has combined the Turkish - French national values in the common denominator making cultural synthesis in the adaptation transferred to our language from French.
