Türkçede sıkça kullanılan örtmece sözler, yeterince araştırılmadıkları için farklı terimlerle karşılanmaktadırlar. Bu ifadelerin özelliklerini, yapılarını ve anlamlarını göz önüne alarak uygun terimler belirlemek, konuyla ilgili çalışmalara katkı sağlayacaktır. Uluslararası literatürde euphemism diye karşılanan bu ifadeler, sevilmeyen, uğursuz sayılan, müstehcen olan varlıkların bilinen adları yerine farklı söz veya sözcüklerle anlatılmasıyla oluşan ifadelerdir. Tabuya bağlı olarak her kültürde ve her dilde bulunan örtmece sözlerde amaç anlaşılmamak değildir. Bir de yanlış işleri gizlemeyi amaçlayan disfemism adı verilen örtmece sözler bulunmaktadır. Bu çalışma, bir arada ele alınması gereken bu ifadeler karşılığında Türkiye'de kullanılan terimleri değerlendirmek; anlam, amaç ve yapı bakımından uygun terimler önermek amacını taşımaktadır.
Euphemisms that are frequently used words in Turkish are corresponded with different terms since they are not adequately examined. Determining proper terms by considering the features, structures and meanings of these statements will make a major contribution to relevant research area. These statements called as euphemisms in international literature are means of expressing obnoxious, inauspicious accepted, obscene entities with different word or words instead of known names. The purpose of euphemisms founded in all cultures and all languages depending on taboo (noa word) is not to be not understood. Besides there are some euphemisms called as dysphemism aiming to conceal wrong doings. The objective of this study is evaluating the alternative terms used in Turkey for these statements those should be taken up together and proposing terms correspondent with meaning, purpose and structure for them.
