Hüseyin Kâzım Kadri’nin, uzun, sürekli ve yorucu bir mesai neticesinde telif etmiş olduğu, dört büyük ciltten oluşan [Büyük] Türk Lügati, kaba bir tasnifle, Türkçenin iki ana kolunu kapsamaktadır: Batı Türkçesi ve Doğu Türkçesi. Büyük oranda –edebî– tanıklarla desteklenmiş olan sözlük; (Osmanlı) Türkiye(si) Türkçesinde kullanılan Türkçe, Arapça, Farsça ve Batı dillerinden (İtalyanca, Fransızca, Lâtince, Rumca, İngilizce…) geçme bütün söz varlığını içermenin yanı sıra; Türkçeyle uzaktan yakından münasebeti bulunan bütün Türk lehçe ve şivelerinin (Uygur, Çağatay, Azerî, Kazak, Çuvaş, Yakut…) de tekmil bir sözlüğüdür. Türkçedeki alıntı kelimelerin yanında lehçe ve kollarıyla beraber Türkçe kökenli kelimelerin örnekli bir fihristi hükmündeki Türk Lügati’nin bu yönüyle Türk sözlükçülük tarihinde bir ilke imza attığı (ve bu ilk oluşun da olumlu olumsuz bütün hususiyetlerini barındırdığı/barındıracağı) şüphesizdir. Bu yazı, tarihî Türk sözlükçülüğünde dönüm noktası olarak değerlendirilen bu sözlüğün, ana hatlarıyla tanıtım ve değerlendirmesinden ibarettir.
“[Büyük] Türk Lügati” (The Great Turkish Dictionary), formed by four covers, which is written by Hüseyin Kâzım Kadri in the result of long, continual and tiresome efforts, with a rough classificaition, comprises two main branches of Turkish language: Western Turkish and Eastern Turkish. The dictionary that is mostly supported by literary examples, is the whole dictionary of Turkish polishes and accents (Uigur, Chagatay, Azeri, Khazakh, Yakhut, Chuvash Turkish, etc) connected with Turkish language at close or distant range, right along with including the vocabulary came from Turkish, Aabic, Persian and Western languages (Italian, French, Latin, Romaic, English, etc) which took a place in Ottoman Turkish. It’s certain that the “Türk Lügati” is the initiator in Turksih lexicography history from the standpoint of being considered as the index with exaples of the words whic originates from Turkish together wits its polishes and branches, in addition to the quoted words in Tukish (and also it’s certain that is shelters all the positive and negative pecuilarities of being initial). This article is consisting of roughly appraising and introduction of this dictionary which is characterized as a turning point in historical Turkish lexicography.
