Sözlükler, dilin kelimelerini ve diğer söz varlıklarını açıklayan eserlerdir. Yazı dili dışında kalmış ağızlara ait kelimeleri açıklayan ağız sözlükleri de bulunmaktadır. Türkçenin ilk sözlüğü Divanü Lügat’t-Türk’ten itibaren çeşitli saha, dönem ve lehçelere ait sözlükler yazılmıştır. Bu sözlüklerin hemen hepsinde dönemin yazı dili dışında ağız özelliklerini gösteren birçok söz bulunmaktadır. Türkiye Türkçesinin ağız sözlükleri de dil araştırmalarında önemli bir yer tutmaktadır. Bu sözlüklerin oluşturulmasında düzenleniş ve söz seçimi yöntemi gibi birtakım yöntem sorunları da bulunmaktadır.
Dictionaries are the tools providing explanations for the words and other verbal elements of a language. There are also dialect dictionaries explaining the words belonging to dialects isolated from the written language. Many different dictionaries have been written relating to different fields, periods and dialects since the appearance of the first dictionary of Turkish language, Divanü Lügat’t-Türk. In almost all of these dictionaries, there are words indicating the characteristics of the dialects different from the dominant written language of the era. Dictionaries of the dialects of Turkish spoken in Turkey have attracted much research.
