Akhis And Zaviyes (Small Dervish Lodge) In Germiyanoğulları District


Germiyanoğulları which emerged as a Seljuk’s marcher lordship in Kütahya, Uşak and Denizli provinces after the disintegretion of the Turkey Seljuk State has an important place in the Anatolia Turk history. With the effort of the seignior and statesmen who administered this seigniorial the mentioned region showed a great improvement socially, culturally and economically in the XIV century. It is valuable to examine the role of the Akhis in this improvement who have constructed zaviyes on the roads of provinces, towns and villages in the region, hosted the passerbys, and who are the biggest representatives of the artisan organization in the cities. The Akhis had continued their active proceedings in the region for a long time after the Germiyanoğulları land had successioned to the Ottomans. Below the proceedings of the Akhis in Kütahya, Denizli and surrounding towns and the zaviyes constructed after their names will be dealt.
