Is “+Sız” A Suffix That Gives A Negative Meaning?

Recently, in some Turkish grammar books and most university preparation materials, “sız” is described as a suffix giving negative meaning. When one looks at the way this suffix is used or exemplified it does not have a negative meaning. Rather, it means “lacking”, “opposite” or “absence”. In Turkish dictionaries, negativeness and negative suffixes are explained based on whether words are verb, action, or action originating words. Therefore, nouns are not proper for giving negative meaning. This shows that the suffix “sız” cannot be used to give nouns negative meaning.
