Bu çalışma müteveffa Alman Türkoloğu Annemarie von Gabain’in Charakteristik der Türksprachen adlı makalesinin Türkçeye tercümesidir. Makalenin girişinde Türk dilinin tasnifi ve konuşulduğu yerler, dünya dilleri arasındaki yeri ve öteki Altay dilleriyle akrabalığı konusu ele alınmaktadır. Ses bilgisi bölümünde Türk dilindeki ünlüler ve ünsüzlerle ses uyumları ve tipik ses değişmeleri işlenmektedir. Kelime bilgisi bölümünde yapım ekleri, sözcük türleri bölümünde isimler ve isim çekim ekleri, sıfatlar, zamirler, fiiller v.b.den bahsedilmektedir. Cümlenin Ögeleri ve Kelime Dizilişi bölümlerinde genel hatlarıyla Türk dilinin cümle bilgisi özellikleri verilmiştir.
This work is a translation of the article “Charakteristik der Türksprachen” in to the Turkish, which was written by the late german turcologist Annemarie von Gabain. At the beginning, it treats the classification of the Turkic languages and their regional distribution on the world and the place of the Turkic languages in the languages of the world and the relationships of Turkic to the other Altaic languages. The vowels and consonants of Turkic languages, sound harmonies, typical sound chanches are treated under the part of phonology. The suffixes of derivation and conjugation are studied under the title of word knowledge. Nouns, conjugatinal and declinational suffixes, adjektives, pronouns, verbs etc. are investigated under the title of parts of speech. Typical peculiaritys of the turkic syntax are given under the title elements of sentence and coordination of the words.
