Examining Masters’ Programs in Educational Sciences and Teacher Education (Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Sample)


In this study, in order to determine the problems faced in masters’ programs in educational sciences and teacher education, views of graduate students in the programs and academicians giving lectures in these programs were taken into consideration. The sample that was designed for the correlational survey model was consisted of Mugla Sıtkı Kocman University’s Educational Sciences Institution’s Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Management and Administrational Planning Economy, Guidance and Psychological Counseling, Turkish Language Teaching, English Language Teaching, Science Education, and Social Sciences Education Departments’ students and academicians. The data was obtained via questionnaire that was developed by the researcher based on expert opinion and literature in the field. The instrument consists of 5 sections. In the first section, there is personal information area. In the following sections, there are items to examine academicians’ characteristics, present program, selection of advisors, and thesis and thesis topics. All the following sections were applied to students. However, only the present program and thesis-thesis topic sections were applied to academicians. The results for the graduate students were compared according to their graduate departments. For the academicians, their title and fields were taken into account.
