J. Lacan, who defines himself as a Freud follower, is one of the most important names in psychoanalytic studies. Drawing attention with her presentation of the “Mirror Stage” title, he created a rich area of work in the fields of cultural studies, identity and language. Lacan focused on the unconscious in his studies and stated that the unconscious was structured as a language. The relationship between unconscious, language and culture has brought a cultural and sociological depth to psychoanalytic studies. Lacan’s powerful metaphorical language, which provided a rich repertoire to concepts, allowed him to interpret his works in different ways. Lacan based his theory of psychoanalysis on Saussure's structuralist linguistics, structuralist anthropology of L. Strauss, and Hegel's reading of A. Kojeve. He became one of the most important representatives of structuralist psychoanalysis with the relationship he established between the unconscious and the language. Lacan's study can be used as a reference point in the studies of orientalism under the titles of identity, politics and alienation. Lacanian psychoanalysis, which argues that every identity can exist only through the other, is also a source of inspiration for the study of orientalism based on epistemological and ontological separation and an essentialist philosophy between the West and the East. In this study, it is aimed to analyze how identity is constructed in the context of Lacanian psychoanalysis and how the subject of subjectivity of the non-Western subject constitutes a traumatic rift. It was tried to examine how the non-Western subject tried to construct its own identity through the father figure in the symbolic order, and why it always worked together with a sense of alienation.
