Readiness of 5th Grade Students on Bulb Brightness

The aim of this study was to determine 5th grade students’ readiness about the number of bulb and battery and their positions in the simple electrical circuits on the effective brightness of the bulb. This situation was questioned to use 4 separate electrical circuits. The data collect instrument consisted of four open ended questions has been used in this study. The study was conducted with the participation of 98 (45 boys, 53 girls) fifth-year students enrolled in the middle school. General screening method was used in this study. The data that obtained from this study were analyzed descriptive analysis. Research results, an important part of students' readiness on the number of battery’ effects on the bulb brightness were sufficient. But more than ¾ of students’ readiness on the number of bulb’ effects on the bulb brightness were not sufficient. A small number of students have thought that bulb brightness is depending on position of bulb and battery and the distance between the bulb and battery some students expressed that the number of batteries is increased when the bulb brightness is increased. But some students expressed to have difficulty that the number of bulb is increased when the bulb brightness is decreased. Misconceptions were determined that the weakening current model, regional reasoning model, shared current model and experimental rules was called in the literature.
