The Treaty Of Friendship, And Establishment And Trade Agreements Signed On January 28, 1924 Between The Republic Of Turkey And The Republic Of Austria

Defeated in World War I, the Ottoman Empire and the Austro-Hungarian Empire collapsed and were dissolved. A national struggle against the Allies was launched in Anatolia invaded after the Armistice of Moudros signed between the Allies and the Ottoman State, and this struggle came to fruition. The Republic of Turkey was established on October 29, 1923. The Austro-Hungarian Empire was broken into the separate countries of Austria, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, and Yugoslavia. Becoming weaker within its shrunken borders, the Austria was proclaimed as a republic, and decided to join Germany. However, the Allies rejected this union, and forced Austria to stand alone. Suffering big political and economical problems for the following period, Austria could not recover from instability until its annexation by Germany before World War II. The Republic of Turkey and the Republic of Austria signed a treaty of friendship, and trade and establishment agreements on January 28, 1924 in Istanbul. The treaty and agreements ensured both these two states and their citizens very favorable conditions, and reestablished their relationship that was severed by the pressure of the Allies after World War I. The Treaty of Friendship, and Trade and Establishment Agreements signed on January 28, 1924 also served the efforts of the two countries to propel themselves to the forefront of the international arena. These and such peaceful policies pursued helped both States to gain acceptance in international politics.
