Inebahti (Lepanto) War And Some Information On The Reconstruction Of The Ottoman Fleet


In the period of Sultan IInd Selim, the Cyprus was successfully conquered. As a consequence of this progress, Crusade Alliance under the leadership of Venice and Spain took action in order to recapture the Cyprus and Ottoman navy was devastatingly defeated in the Inebahti ( Lepanto) War on the date of 7 October 1571. At the Ottoman Empire having lost the greater part of her navy, the period of construction of a new navy was initiated and a respond was given to the Inebahti defeat by forming an enormous navy in pursuit of nearly six-month endeavor. In this study, information about preparations during and after Inebahti War was given by predicating on registers in the “muhimme defteri”(register of important sultan decrees).
