Pantuation-Pronunciation Relationship In Middle Ottoman Language

Turks have used various ahphabets throughout history. Among these is the Arabic alphabet which has the longest life. Arabic letters could not represent the phonetic system of Turkish completely. That is, it was a difficult task to indicate the sounds of Turkish perfectly and to show the words according to their pronunciations from the Turkish works written with the Arabic alphabet. In this article, spoken Turkish I mean, the waf of sayin (pronunciation) wil be revealed by utilizing the Turkish works written in the Latin alphabet in the historical period, named as middle Ottoman language by the scholars, in which the classical punctuation was dominant and was thought to be beginning from the first years of the 17th century to the end of the 18th century. In this process, Turkish words written with the Arabic alphabet will be compared and tehe general phonetic system of the Turkish will be shown by using some works written in the 17th and the 18th centuries
