I Want to Read Dede Korkut, But...

For some reasons, languages have undergone changes for an unknown period. In this respect, Turkic has also undergone synchronous and diachronic changes. Therefore, there are some inherent difficulties of translating texts from one dialect to another in the same language and texts written in the same dialect at different times. These difficulties can not be overcome through insights as is done so far; hence, translation is a job of an expert. So, as “translation among the Turkic languages” is accepted to be a research field, “intra-lingual translation” should also be accepted to be a research field. In this study, from the view of a student, the translations from The Book of Dede Korkut folk stories are evaluated; and the failure in the translation made based on the insights is emphasized.
