Meanings of names of people or places, the reason of naming, and the form of the name give important clues about the nation to which it belongs. Names are given in a way that covers all the characteristics of a person and a concept within the possibilities of language. Names of individuals have always played an important role in the Turkish culture both in terms of the way of naming and the choice of the given name. In the Turkish world, it is observed that there have been differences throughout the history both in terms of naming traditions and in matters that are effective in the choice of name. The main reasons for these differences are religious, political and cultural factors that have changed throughout history. Names of individuals are important elements which reflect the culture of a nation as well as helping to learn a nation’s interaction with other cultures. Considering that Kazan Tatar Turks are a Turkish community living under the shadow of Russian for more than 400 years in Idil Ural region, it will be possible to have information about whether they are influenced by Russian culture or not by examining the names of Kazan Tatars. Cultural heritage products that have survived to the present day serve as public memory. In addition to being a social, political, historical and geographical resource, since verbal and written cultural products are the most powerful reflectors of a language, cultural abstract and concrete heritage products are used while monitoring the development of the language. In this study, as being one of the elements to be consulted in order to understand the cultural structure, the world view and the philosophy of life of a nation, names of individuals are discussed on the basis of women who have always held a valuable place in Tatar Turks before and after Islam. The Women naming reflecting the culture and history of Tatar Kazan Turks to some extend who have been subjected to various social, political and ethnic pressures throughout history, have lived and had to live together with different nations are analyzed by classification under the effect of Islamic religion, color names, animal names and plant and fruit names. In addition, the reasons for giving names in Kazan Tatar culture are mentioned. In this study, it is seen that beliefs and social conditions are the dominant factors in Kazan Tatar women's naming.},author={Gülşah YILMAZ},year={2020},journal={Journal of Turkish Studies}}
