Investigation of The Interpersonal Relationship Styles and Social Interest in Romantic Relationships of University Students


The purpose of the study was to examine the relations between interpersonal relations styles and social interest in romantic relations. The sample of the research consists of 240 volunteer students studying at Ondokuz Mayıs University. Respondents were easily accessible and volunteer 151 female and 89 male university students. Their average age is 20,79. Correlational comparative survey method was applied in the study. The scale of the interpersonal relationship styles developed by Şahin, Durak and Yasak (1994) and Adlerian social interest scale-romantic relationship form developed by Kalkan (2009) were used in the study. SPSS Statistics 21.0 software was used for the data analysis. In order to investigate the problem of the study, Pearson Moments Multiple correlation analysis used and significant positive relationship is found between social interest level in romantic relations and nourishing style. On the other hand, there is a significant negative relationship between social interest level in romantic relations and poisoning style. Interpersonal relations styles (nourishing and poisoning) and social interest level scores are analyzed in Manova and significant differences are found between interpersonal relations styles of University students and their social interest levels in romantic relations according to gender. The results were discussed in the relevant literature perspective and the suggestions could be helpful for the other researchers were submitted.
