“Is The Poetry The Wording Which is Not a Prose?” On Differences Of Poetry And Prose, Poetry’s Becoming Prose And Possibility of Poetry Written In Prose

In this paper, the character, capabilities and qualities and differences of poetry and prose which are the two essential wording or style of expressing of the literature will be considered and discussed by referring to various poets, authors and academics, since poetry and prose are two different ways of expression each of which has a particular pattern, sense, function and effect of its own. The fact that the poets and authors of the world literature-as well as of Turkish literature- mostly prefer one of those genres or sometimes use both of them in the same work is an indicator that those two literary genres have a particular characteristic and possibilities of their own. Furthermore, the harms caused by using a statement of prose in poetry, the harms of thinking in a way peculiar to prose and briefly turning into a prose will be comprehended in this study; because many poets and authors have pointed out that the greatest danger that the poetry would face with is “becoming a prose”, “turning into a prose” and the fact that the words and verses lose their poeticalness, in other words, the simple pattern of prose runs through the work is considered to be contrary to the nature, sense, and briefly the soul of the poetry. Apart from all mentioned above, I will deal with the issues whether the poem may be composed or written in prose, or whether the prose-works containing poetical sense [intent] and logic may be regarded as poetry. Influenced by the atmosphere of freeness which is thought to have accompanied the romantic movement of 19th century, the poets have suggested that the poetry is not supposed to be in verse and also stated that not every work in verse can be consider as poetry or not every work in prose can be left out of poetry. However, the different evaluations of the 20th century poets about this subject on which even the most distant poets far from each other have arrived at a consensus will be considered here.
