Son yıllarda küresel olarak şehirlerin hızla büyümeleri, yerleşim alanlarının plansız bir şekilde genişlemesine neden olmuştur. Bu durum doğal ortamla ilgili birçok problemi beraberinde getirmektedir. Ortaya çıkan problemlerin çözümü için uygun yer seçiminin yapılması gereklidir. Bu araştırmanın amacını CBS tabanlı çok kriterli karar verme tekniğini kullanarak Sinop’un şehirsel uygunluk analizinin belirlenmesi oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmada çeşitli kurumlardan elde edilen veriler tematik haritaların üretilmesinde altlık olarak kullanılmıştır. Haritaların analizi ArcGIS 10.5 paket program yardımıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmada çok kriterli karar verme yöntemlerinden birisi olan Analitik Hiyerarşi Yöntemi’nden yararlanılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda elde edilen bulgulara bağlı olarak Sinop şehri 6743,58 hektar olarak hesaplanmıştır. Bu hesaplamalarda şehrin %40,5’i şehirsel yerleşmeye çok uygun sahalardan oluştuğu tespit edilmiştir. Özellikle kentin doğusunda Zeytinlik ve Ada mahalleleri, batısında Bostancılı-Korucuk-Ordu mahalleleri bu sahalara örnek olarak verilebilir. Diğer yandan analizde elde edilen diğer bulgulara göre şehrin %43’ü yerleşmeye elverişlilik açısından uygun alanlar içermektedir. Bu sahalar kentin batı kesiminde yoğunlaşmaktadır. Bunlara ek olarak şehrin %12’sini orta uygun ve %4,5’ini uygun alanlar oluşturmaktadır. Bahsedilen sahalar şehrin batı ve güneyindedir. Analizin belirleyici özelliği ise Sinop’un büyük bir kısmının şehirsel yerleşme açısından uygun koşullara sahip olmasıdır. Ancak kentin batı kesimi litolojik özelliklere bağlı olarak heyelanlı saha üzerinde olduğu da unutulmamalıdır. Sonuç olarak şehirsel yerleşmelerin nereye konumlanacağı, gelişme yönleri ve diğer konularda daha fazla çalışmaların yapılmasına ihtiyaç vardır.

The rapid growth of cities has caused to be the unplanned expansion of residential areas globally in recent years. This situation brings about many problems related to the natural environment. Emerged problem solving is to be necessary suitable site selection analysis. The aim of this research is to determine the urban suitability analysis of Sinop using based multi-criteria decision analysis by GIS. In the study, data obtained from various institutions were used as a basis for the production of thematic maps. The analysis of maps was carried out by means of ArcGIS 10.5 package software. Analytical Hierarchy Method, one of the multi-criteria decision analysis, was utilized in the research. The obtained findings show that the city of Sinop was calculated as 6743.58 hectares. In these calculations, it has been determined that 40.5% of the city comprise of areas that highly suitable for urban settlement. Especially, Zeytinlik and Ada neighbourhoods in the east of the city also Bostancı-Korucuk-Ordu neighbourhoods in the west of the city can be given as examples of these areas. On the other side, pertaining to other findings obtained in the analysis, 43% of the city contains suitable areas in terms of suitability for settlement. These sites are concentrated in the western part of the city. In addition to these, 12% of the city consists of medium suitable areas and 4,5% suitable areas. The mentioned areas are located to the west and south of the city. The defining feature of the analysis is that most of Sinop have favorable conditions in terms of urban settlement. However, it should also remember that the western part of the city is located in landslide area because of lithological features. As a result, more studies are needed on where urban settlements will be located, development directions and other issues.
