Tek kurşun bile dökmeden Hindistan'a özgürlüğünü kazandıran Mahatma Gandhi’nin adı, dünyada neredeyse herkes tarafından bilinmekte, emperyalizme ve sömürgeciliğe karşı koyan bir lider olarak görülmektedir. Şiddet karşısında şiddetsiz kalmayı savunan Mahatma Gandhi, kitleleri peşinde sürükleyen "Sessiz Direniş"in sembolü haline gelmiştir. Gandhi’nin zaferle sonuçlanan bu sessiz direnişini anlatan pek çok eser bulunmaktadır. Bunlardan birisi de aday gösterildiği on bir Oscarın dokuzunu kazanan 1982 yapımı Gandhi filmi olmuştur. Film Gandhi'nin öldürülmesi ile başlamaktadır. Cenaze töreninde her milletten ve devletten siyasilerle birlikte bir insan selinin varlığı dikkat çekmektedir. Filmin devamında Gandi, sırf ten renginden dolayı trenden atılmaktadır ve bu ırkçılığa karşı dimdik ayakta durmakta ve faaliyetlere başlamaktadır. Gandi'nin her zaman dile getirdiği ve uyguladığı şey kimseye zarar vermeden, öldürmeden, onların vicdanına seslenerek özgürlüklerini elde etmek olmuştur. Gandhi pek çok kez hapse girmiş ve hiçbir zaman yılmadan aynı kararlılıkla yoluna devam etmiştir. Sonunda da zafere ulaşmıştır. Araştırmada, nitel araştırma tekniklerinden biri olan döküman analizinden yararlanılmıştır. Burada, Gandhi filmi veri toplama kaynağı olarak kullanılmış, filmde yaşanan olaylar ve konuşmalar ruhsal liderlik kavramı açısından incelenmiştir.  Araştırmada öncelikle ruhsal liderlik ile ilgili yapılmış pek çok çalışma incelenmiş ve ruhsal liderliğin genel yapısının ortaya konulması amaçlanmıştır. Sonrasında ise filmde ayrıntılı olarak hayatı anlatılan Mahatma Gandhi'nin ruhsal liderlik ile benzeşen yönlerini ortaya koymak amaçlanmaktadır. Araştırmada hem film hem de ilgili literatür neticesinde Gandhi'nin ruhsal lider olarak değerlendirilebileceği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

The name Mahatma Gandhi, who gave India its freedom without spilling a single bullet, is known by almost everyone in the world and is seen as a leader who opposed imperialism and colonialism. Mahatma Gandhi, who advocates to remain non-violent in the face of violence, has become the symbol of the "Silent Resistance" that drags the masses after him. There are many works describing this silent resistance of Gandhi which ended in victory. One of these was the 1982 film Gandhi, which won nine of the eleven Oscars for which it was nominated. The movie begins with the murder of Gandhi. The presence of a flood of people with politicians of all nations and states at the funeral is remarkable. In the rest of the film, Gandhi is thrown off the train just because of his skin color, and he stands firmly against this racism and starts activities. What Gandhi always expressed and applied was to achieve their freedom by appealing to their conscience without harming or killing anyone. Gandhi has been imprisoned many times and has never given up on his way with the same determination. In the end, he has achieved victory. Document analysis, one of the qualitative research techniques, was used in the research. Here, the movie Gandhi was used as a data collection tool, and the events and speeches in the film were examined in terms of the concept of spiritual leadership. In the study, many studies on spiritual leadership were examined first and it was aimed to reveal the general structure of spiritual leadership. Afterwards, it is aimed to reveal the similar aspects of Mahatma Gandhi, whose life is described in detail in the film, with spiritual leadership. In the research, it was concluded that Gandhi could be considered as a spiritual leader as a result of both the movie and the related literature.
